FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. – The Alcorn State University baseball program led Arkansas after six innings, but the Razorbacks came back for a 3-2 decision in the first of a two-game series Tuesday at Baum Stadium.

The game was tied 1-1 in the sixth frame when senior
Jason Sanez ripped a two-out triple to right field. It scored senior
Justin Barna who doubled earlier in the inning and put the Braves (6-9, 2-1 SWAC) in the lead 2-1.

The Razorbacks (13-4) evened the score in the bottom of the seventh on a sacrifice fly. They walked-off in the ninth with a one-out single through the right side by Jake Arledge which scored Cannon Chadwick.

The Braves outhit the Razorbacks 11-9. Alcorn also did not commit an error defensively

Alcorn was led offensively by junior
Wallace Rios Jimenez who registered three hits. He extended his on-base streak to 12 games and his hitting streak to five. It was also his third multi-hit game of the season.

Also with multi-hit games, junior
A.J. Makarewicz, and seniors
Walter Vives and
Jason Sanez notched two hits apiece. Barna's ninth inning double extended his hitting streak to six games.

The Braves scored their first run of the game in the third inning. It came on an RBI groundout by Makarewicz which scored junior
Devin Walden who singled to center and advanced to third on a hit by Rios.

Junior
Jahborus Smith got the start for the Braves and threw a perfect inning with a strikeout. Senior
Patrick McMahon tossed the bulk of the load, lasting 4.1 innings and allowing just one earned run. He struck out five. Freshman
Anthony Acosta (0-1) pitched 2.0 innings and also allowed just one run but was tagged with the loss.

Chadwick (2-0) picked up the win for Arkansas after tossing the final 1.1 innings.

The Braves and the Razorbacks will conclude their two-game series Wednesday with a 3 p.m. first pitch. Alcorn will resume league action this weekend when it travels to Jackson State for a three-game series. Game one is scheduled for 6 p.m. Friday in Biloxi, Mississippi.
