Three Braves Register Career-Highs as Alcorn Breezes by Rust 103-66

LORMAN, Miss. – The scoring started early and didn't stop for the Alcorn State University men's basketball program in a 103-66 victory over Rust College at the Davey L. Whitney Complex.
 
Three Braves (2-6) poured in career-highs including junior Maurice Howard, sophomore Troymain Crosby and sophomore Kobe Wilson. Howard led all scorers with 26 points including an 8-for-16 mark from long-range. Crosby notched 22 points, six rebounds and six assists, and Wilson totaled 10 points, eight rebounds, five assists and three steals.
 
Also in double-figures for Alcorn were senior Reginal Johnson with 15 points and sophomore Jael Scott ended with 10.
 
The Braves shot a season-high .556 (35-63) from the field and .405 (15-37) from beyond-the-arc. They posted a season-high .818 (18-22) percentage from the free throw line.
 
Alcorn also turned in season-highs in assists with 28 and steals with 20.
 
Rust (0-8) was paced by Kortez Wade who ended with 19 points and Quentin Pough who had 18 points and five rebounds.
 
The game was tied 10-10 early when Johnson nailed a three-pointer to spark an 11-0 run and put the Braves ahead 21-10 at the 10:44 mark. A three-pointer by junior Deshaw Andrews and a dunk by Scott extended the lead to 32-17 with 6:14 remaining.
 
Still up 37-20, Alcorn ended the half on a 15-1 spurt. The run included another dunk by Scott and a pair of lay-ups by Wilson as the Braves carried a 52-21 advantage into the intermission.
 
Alcorn's lead never dropped below 27 points in the second half. The largest lead, 101-64, came on a runner by Crosby with under a minute left.
 
The Braves will remain at home next weekend when they host Champion Christian at 4:30 p.m. Saturday at the Davey L. Whitney Complex.
 
NOTES
- Alcorn is now 11-0 against non-Division I opponents under head coach Montez Robinson. The Braves are also 2-0 at home this year.
 
- The Braves improved to 5-0 all-time against Rust and defeated the Bearcats for the fourth straight year. Alcorn won 89-50 last year.
 
- The sharp-shooting Braves entered the game leading the SWAC in three-pointers made with 8.0 and nearly doubled their average with 15. Howard's eight threes and Crosby's trio were both career-highs.
 
- Howard topped his previous career-high of 24 points set earlier this year against Blue Mountain. His nine field goals were also a career-best. He tallied his 25th career double-figure scoring game and third this year. It was his fifth double-digit scoring outing and second this year.
 
- Crosby's previous career-high was 20 points against Texas Southern at home last year. His seven made free throws were also a career-best. He put in his 13th career double-figure scoring and second this year.
 
- Johnson etched his 58th career double-figure scoring game and third this year. In 101 appearances, he's never fouled out of a game. Johnson was a perfect 6-for-6 at the free throw line.
 
- Wilson surpassed his previous career-high of seven points last year against Rust College. His eight rebounds were a season-high.
 
- Scott submitted his second double-figure scoring game of the year. He was one-point shy of his career-high of 11 points against Kent State earlier this year.
 
- The Braves outscored the Bearcats 40-14 off turnovers, 18-2 on the fast break and 35-8 off the bench.
