THIBODAUX, La. – A non-conference meeting with Nicholls State did not go in favor of the Alcorn State University baseball program as the team fell 18-0 Wednesday night at Ben Myer Diamond at Ray E. Didier Field.

The Colonels (13-21) jumped out to a big lead early with 12 runs on seven hits and an error in the bottom of the first inning. The hosts then added runs in the second and third before posting a four-run bottom half of the fourth. Alcorn put a runner in scoring position in the top of the third as Rios Jimenez hit a one-out single to center. After McGowan flew out, Hamilton singled to right to move Rios Jimenez up to second, but the Braves (8-24) were unable to move him up as Wilson grounded out to second.

Alcorn had its best opportunity in the top of the fifth. With two down, Rios Jimenez was hit by a pitch and McGowan followed with a single to the gap in right center to put runners on the corners. The Purple and Gold couldn't capitalize though as Nicholls State escaped the inning on a strikeout looking.

Wallace Rios Jimenez and
Der'Vincent Hamilton both had 2-for-3 efforts at the plate to lead the Braves offensively.
Brandon Barna and
A.J. Makarewicz each hit 1-for-3 and
Jordan McGowan had the team's other hit as he finished 1-for-4. In the field, Barna led Alcorn with six putouts and Makarewicz contributed four with a pair of assists.

Regynold Johnson (0-2) gave up 11 runs (three earned) on six hits and five walks. The senior from South Holland, Ill. took the loss after facing 13 batters in 0.2 innings.
Brandon Thomas allowed seven runs (three earned) on five hits and a base on balls in 2.2 innings of relief.
Devon Key pitched the remaining 2.2 innings and allowed just one hit.

The Braves make their longest trip of the season this weekend as they play a three-game series at Seattle University. The teams will plat a 7 p.m. contest Friday, at 4 p.m. on Saturday, and will close out the series Sunday at 2 p.m.
