HAMMOND, La. – Despite a steady rain leading up to kickoff, the Alcorn State University women's soccer program played its season opener at Southeastern Louisiana, an 8-0 loss Sunday evening at Strawberry Stadium.

Junior Giselle Rojas and sophomore Kameran Proby split time in the net for the Lady Braves, who fall to 0-1 to start the season. Both keepers recorded three saves apiece. Junior Anjelica Dugan took Alcorn's lone shot on goal.

The host Lady Lions (1-0) opened the scoring in the 25th minute as Christina Cutura headed in a corner kick. The senior added a second goal in the 38th minute and made it a hat trick with another header off a corner in the 42nd as the Green and Gold built a 3-0 halftime lead.

Five different players scored for SLU in the second half to put the game out of reach. The Lady Lions held the advantage in both shots (32-1) and corner kicks (14-0).

Alcorn has a week to prepare for its home opener against Mississippi University for Women next Sunday, Aug. 26. The game is scheduled for a 1 p.m. first kick at Spinks-Casem Stadium.
