SAN ANTONIO, Texas – A strong Eastern Washington squad was able earn a 3-0 (25-10, 25-21, 25-10) result over the Alcorn State University volleyball program Friday evening on a neutral court at Incarnate Word's McDermott Center.

It snapped a modest two-game winning-streak for Alcorn (2-6).

The Lady Braves were led by sophomore
Mae Lewis who put down seven kills on 17 attacks. Fellow sophomore
Daharri Thompkins notched five kills on 10 attacks.

Alcorn used two setters as junior
Barbara Grubisic Cabo distributed 11 assists, while SWAC Newcomer of the Week
Jurnee Calhoun had nine.

Sophomore Fiapaipai dug up 17 balls on the back line.

The most competitive set was the second when the Lady Braves led 6-1 after a kill by freshman
Havanna Garza. Alcorn was still ahead 14-11 after a kill by freshman
Sydney Joseph. EWU took its first lead at 17-16, and pulled away late to go up 22-17.

EWU improved to 8-3 overall, its best start since 2006. It marked the first-ever meeting between the two programs.

Alcorn will look to bounce back tomorrow when it takes on the host institution Incarnate Word at 12:30 p.m.
