Wiley College | L, 0-3 (15-25, 24-26, 21-25)
The first set was not kind to the purple and gold, as Wiley College went up 13-2 before the crowd could settle into their seats and ultimately took a convincing set win (15-25).
The second set started off more evenly matched as the teams were tied at three-all. The Wildcats opened things up with an 8-1 outburst to move ahead by seven (11-4). With the score at 14-8 Wiley, Alcorn started on the comeback trail, rallying for five of the next six to cut the lead to two (15-13). WC would open the lead back up to five but a 6-1 surge by the Lady Braves knotted the score at 22. After both sides got two unanswered, the visitors from Marshall, Texas finally put the set on ice and came away with a hard-fought 26-24 victory and a two-set upper hand.
Wiley held the early advantage in the third set at 6-4 but the home team put four straight on the board to take the lead (8-6). A 5-0 rally by the Wildcats stunted that momentum and saw them reclaim the edge (11-8). Things would start to get tight towards the 36-point mark as both teams were even at 18 apiece. Unfortunately for Coach Robinson's crew, Wiley College ended any hopes of a comeback with a 6-1 run and eventual 25-21 third set win, giving the Wildcats a sweep.
Alcorn returns to the SWAC on Sunday evening when it travels to Alabama State to face its first East Division foe at 5 p.m. inside Lockhart Gymnasium.
