Alcorn Game Notes | Live Radio | Live Stats

LORMAN, Miss. – On what's expected to be a very cold night outside, the Alcorn State University men's basketball program will look to heat it up inside the Davey L. Whitney Complex when it welcomes Paul Quinn at 6 p.m. Tuesday.

Despite their 0-2 record, the Braves have played in a pair of competitive games. Most recently, they pushed UL-Monroe to the brink of overtime in a 73-72 defeat. The Braves led 72-70 with 1:02 left in overtime. Junior Troymain Crosby neared a double-double with 17 points and nine rebounds.

Alcorn has been a second half team so far and have outscored both of its opponents in the second half. It outscored DePaul 28-27 and UL-Monroe 39-28.

The Braves have also been tough on the glass and have outrebounded both of their opponents. They outrebounded DePaul 43-39 and UL-Monroe 40-37. Junior Kobe Wilson ranks third in the league in rebounding (7.5 rpg) and fourth in offensive rebounds (3.5 orpg). He pulled down 10 rebounds in the season-opener at DePaul.

Senior Maurice Howard is 12 points away from reaching the 1,000 mark in his career. He would become the 40th student-athlete in school history to reach that feat.

Through two games, Crosby and senior Deshaw Andrews are both averaging in double-figures. Crosby records 13.0 points and 6.0 rebounds per game, while Andrews is tallying 11.5 points and 5.5 rebounds per outing. Andrews has scored in double-digits in both games.

Alcorn carries over a two-game home winning-streak from last season. The Braves won six of their last seven home games.

Paul Quinn is an NAIA member and competes in the Red River Athletics Conference. The Tigers fell to Sam Houston State 95-57 last week as Mateo Escheik carried the offense with 24 points including four three-pointers.

Tuesday's game can be heard live on 91.7 FM or wprl.org with Charles Edmond on the call. Admission to the game is free.
