HUNTSVILLE, Ala. – In the final road games of the 2019-20 regular season, the Alcorn State University men's basketball program will travel to Alabama A&M at 5:30 p.m. Saturday at T.M. Elmore Gym, and Alabama State at 7:30 p.m. Monday at Dunn-Oliver Acadome.

Alcorn (12-12, 8-5 SWAC) will be going for season sweeps over AAMU (6-17, 3-9 SWAC) and ASU (8-17, 7-5 SWAC). The Braves beat both teams by one possession at home.

In the first meetings, the Braves made defensive stands in the closing seconds to win both games. Junior Troymain Crosby hit the go-ahead basket with under a minute left in both games. Alcorn beat AAMU 59-58 and ASU 63-60.

This past weekend, the Braves completed season sweeps over both Mississippi Valley State and Arkansas-Pine Bluff. Senior Deshaw Andrews averaged 15.0 points and 7.0 rebounds in the wins, while shooting 6-for-10 from three-point range.

Alcorn held UAPB to just 52 points, the fewest the Braves have allowed in a game this season.

Alcorn has four student-athletes averaging in double-figures. All four shoot over 80 percent from the free throw line.

Senior Maurice Howard averages a team-high 14.3 points per game and shoots .375 from long range. In addition to his scoring and three-point shooting, he ranks fifth in the school record book in assists with 315. Howard has scored 1,287 career points.

In conference, junior Troymain Crosby is the team's leading scorer with 14.8 points and 5.8 rebounds per game. He leads the SWAC in free throw percentage on the year with a .844 mark.

If the season ended today, Andrews would break the single-season three-point percentage record in Alcorn history with a league-leading .485 clip. He averages 12.7 points per game.

Senior Corey Tillery averages 12.6 points per outing and is already No. 5 in Alcorn single-season history in three-pointers made with 70. The grad-transfer from Tennessee Tech has made at least five three-pointers in five different games this year.

Alcorn's leading rebounder is junior Kobe Wilson with 6.1 rebounds per outing. He ranks top-five in the SWAC in rebounding, offensive rebounds (2.1 orpg) and blocks (1.1 bpg).

AAMU is fighting to remain in the top-eight in the SWAC standings to earn a berth to the SWAC Championships. The Bulldogs are one game ahead of both UAPB and MVSU. Cameron Alford leads the team in both scoring and rebounding with 14.3 points and 5.4 rebounds per game.

ASU is one of the hottest teams in the league, having won five games in a row. The Hornets haven't lost since they came to Alcorn on Jan. 27. Tobi Ewuosho averages 13.3 points and 6.1 rebounds per game, both are team-highs.

Both games can be heard live on 91.7 FM or wprl.org with Charles Edmond on the call.
