Alcorn Game Notes | Braves All-Access | Live Radio | Live Stats

LORMAN, Miss. – With a shot at hosting a first round game in the SWAC Championships, the Alcorn State University men's basketball program will conclude the regular season against Prairie View A&M at 7:30 p.m. Thursday and Texas Southern at 5:30 p.m. Saturday at the Davey L. Whitney Complex.

Alcorn (13-14, 9-7 SWAC) currently sits in a tie for fifth-place with Jackson State, and one game behind Grambling State. The Braves hold the tiebreaker over GSU but not JSU. The Braves can move into fourth if they win their last two games, and have both GSU and Jackson State lose one of their last two in road games at Alabama A&M and Alabama State.

Alcorn has four student-athletes averaging in double-figures. All four shoot over 80 percent from the free throw line.

Senior Maurice Howard was named the front-runner for SWAC Player of the Year by ESPN on Feb. 4. He averages a team-high 13.7 points per game and shoots .366 from long range. In addition to his scoring and three-point shooting, he ranks fifth in the school record book in assists with 326.

In conference, junior Troymain Crosby is the team's leading scorer with 14.3 points and 5.9 rebounds per game. He leads the SWAC in free throw percentage on the year with a .847 mark.

If the season ended today, senior Deshaw Andrews would break the single-season three-point percentage record in Alcorn history with a league-leading .483 clip. He averages 12.7 points per game. Andrews won SWAC Player of the Week on Jan. 20.

Senior Corey Tillery averages 12.7 points per outing and is already No. 2 in Alcorn single-season history in three-pointers made with 80. He's chasing Howard's mark of 95 made last season.

Alcorn's leading rebounder is junior Kobe Wilson with 5.9 rebounds per outing. He ranks third in the SWAC in blocks (1.1 bpg) and top-five in offensive rebounds (2.0 orpg).

Prairie View A&M (18-11, 14-2 SWAC) has already clinched the top seed in the SWAC Championships since it's two games ahead of Texas Southern and holds the tiebreaker. The Panthers finished a perfect 11-0 (9-0 SWAC) at home. Gerard Andrus, the SWAC Preseason Player of the Year, averages 15.1 points and 5.5 rebounds per game.

Texas Southern (15-14, 12-4 SWAC) has an important game Thursday at Southern to remain as the No. 2 seed. Tyrik Armstrong averages 14.3 points and 4.1 assists per outing. Yahuza Rasas nearly averages a double-double with 10.8 points and 9.7 rebounds per game.

Both games can be watched on Braves All-Access with a subscription. They can also be heard for free on 91.7 FM or wprl.org with Charles Edmond on the call.

Saturday will be Senior Day as the Braves honor Andrews, Howard, Tillery, Edrick Alsworth, Devon Brewer and Alonzo Campbell.
