Braves Face Tulane Twice on Thursday

NEW ORLEANS, La. – After opening the spring season this past Sunday against LSU, the Alcorn State University men's tennis team returned to the court Thursday facing Tulane twice. The Green Wave won both matches by the same scores of 6-1.

During the first match in doubles, Lucas Dini and Luka Andonov came close at No. 2 winning three games, 3-6. David Pata and Stojan Stojanovski at the top flight and Kareem Bowe and Santiago Rocca at No. 3 each fell by the same scores of 0-6.

In singles, Andonov claimed the point for the Braves at No. 4 as he won the first set, 6-4 and after dropping the second, 3-6, he came back to win the super tiebreaker in the third, 10-8. Pata battled in his match at the top flight winning three games in the first set before falling short, 3-6, 1-6. Dini won two games at No. 2, 1-6, 1-6. Stojanovski at No. 2 and Rocca at No. 6 each fell by the same scores of 1-6, 0-6. Rounding out the singles group was Bowe at No. 5 who fell 0-6, 0-6.

In the second match of the day, Andonov and Stojanovski at the top flight and Rocca and Dini at No. 2 in doubles each won a game before falling by the same scores of 1-6. At No. 3, Bowe and Dakota Fernandez fell by the score of 0-6.

In singles, Andonov again picked up the point for Alcorn, this time playing at No. 3 where he won 6-3, 6-2. Stojanovski at the top flight, Dini at No. 2 and Rocca at No. 4 all won two games in their first sets and fell by the same scores of 2-6, 0-6. Bowe claimed one game in his match at No. 5, 1-6, 0-6 and Fernandez fell at No. 6, 0-6, 0-6.

Alcorn will now prepare to face Southern Mississippi this Sunday at 11 a.m. before getting ready for their home opener on Thursday, January 28 against Jacksonville State at 12 p.m.
