SWAC Releases Volleyball Predicted Order of Finish for Spring Season

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. – The Southwestern Athletic Conference released the predicted order of finish for the coming spring season for volleyball that has Prairie View A&M as the pick to finish first. Alcorn State is slated to finish seventh as the preseason poll was voted upon by league head coaches and sports information directors.

Prairie View A&M garnered 122 votes, followed by Jackson State (105) and Texas Southern (92) to round out the top-three. Southern was tabbed fourth (81), Grambling State in fifth (72), Arkansas-Pine Bluff in sixth (56), Alcorn State (47) seventh and Mississippi Valley State (34) in eighth. Alabama A&M and Alabama State were left out of the poll as both have elected to opt-out of competition for the spring season.

Last year, the Lady Braves went 7-23 overall and 3-15 in SWAC play. They closed the season strong defeating Mississippi Valley State (3-1) and Tuskegee (3-0). Jasmine Chambers and Jeda Curry were both selected to the SWAC Preseason Second Team Wednesday.

Alcorn was set to open the new season this coming Sunday, but with Alabama State and Alabama A&M opting out, the Lady Braves will now look to open the spring season on Sunday, January 31 at home against Prairie View A&M inside Davey L. Whitney Complex.
