LORMAN, Miss. – The Alcorn State University volleyball program dropped the contest in three sets to undefeated Jackson State.

The Lady Braves (1-6, 1-6 SWAC) recorded three more digs than JSU, outperforming the Lady Tigers on defense, 43-40.

Fiapaipai Iosia was the only Alcorn student-athlete to log double-digits in a statistical category, garnering 11 digs, a service ace, and an assist.

Mae Lewis topped the team in kills with nine while Mar'ria Phillips was second at five.

Jurnee Calhoun replaced Jasmine Chambers as the club's top setter on this particular night, compiling eight to front the Purple and Gold.

Simone Barren swatted down the squad's one block with authority, going high above the net to reject an attack by Talia Gaines.

Jackson State Lady Tigers | L, 0-3 (21-25, 11-25, 17-25)

In the opening set, Alcorn held a lead as big as five (11-6) but once the score reached 12-8, JSU caught fire. The Blue Bengals would rip off a run of seven in-a-row and nine of ten to jump ahead for good at 17-13. The ladies from Lorman were able to narrow the gap down to one at 22-21 but three consecutive kills ended the set, 21-25.

The second frame was all Blue and White as Jackson State scored 13 of the first 15 points to win a quick one, 11-25.

Coach Robinson's squad seemed to gain a little bit of momentum to start the third, taking hold of a four-point advantage 12 points in (8-4). The Lady Tigers decided to flex its muscles once again with seven unanswered to come charging back to make it 11-8. Alcorn would not go down without a fight as it tied the set at 16 but the red-hot women from the capital city put the game away, putting 9 of the last ten points on the scoreboard to complete the sweep, 17-25.

Jackson State boosted its slight advantage in the all-time series history up to 35-32 against the Lady Braves.

The Purple and Gold will honor its two graduating seniors Mae Lewis and Jasmine Chambers before tomorrow's home and season finale against Mississippi Valley State with first serve at 6:30 p.m. inside the Davey L. Whitney Complex.
