Game Recap: Men's Basketball |

Braves Put Up Valiant Effort In Loss To PVAMU

PRAIRIE VIEW, Texas – The Alcorn State University men's basketball program was ahead at halftime but the Panthers pulled away at the end to end up with the final score of 81-69.

The Braves (6-12, 6-7 SWAC) went mano a mano with the now three-time defending SWAC regular season champion, winning the rebounding battle (33-30) and scoring 18 more points off the bench than the home club.

Tyree Corbett was Alcorn's top rebounder on the afternoon, bringing down nine boards and providing six points as well.

The Purple and Gold had four in double-figures with Myson Lowe (14) fronting the scoring charge followed by Byron Joshua (13), Anthony Fairley (12) and David Pierce (11).

Prairie View A&M (14-4, 13-0 SWAC) was converting field goals at an impressive clip, hitting 56.4% from the court (31-of-55) and 43.8% on three-point attempts (7-for-16).

PVAMU got an otherworldly outing from Jawuan Daniels, posting a ridiculous 30 points and ten rebounds plus a game-high three blocks while shooting 11-of-13 (84.6%) from the field.

He was not the only Panther to notch a double-double as Cam Mack got the less common assist/point version, handing out 12 assists coupled with ten points.

DeWayne Cox was two rebounds shy of a third Prairie View double-double, putting together 12 points and eight rebounds.

PV had four of its starting five score double-figures as Jeremiah Gambell (14) and D'Rell Roberts (10) to go along with the three players mentioned below. Roberts was the only player of the double-digit scorers that came off the bench.

Coach Landon Bussie and the Braves are the sixth seed in the upcoming SWAC Tournament and will face the third seeded Texas Southern Tigers once again in the Quarterfinals.

NOTES
  • Alcorn has primarily handled Prairie View in program history, leading the all-time series by a count of 74-38 (66.1%).
