GREENWOOD, Ind. – Alcorn Soccer student-athletes Charlie Bal, Mikayla Duncan and Emily Serrato have each been named to the College Sports Communicators All-District Women's Soccer Team, announced this week from the headquarters in Greenwood, Indiana.

The 2022 Academic All-District® Women's Soccer Teams, selected by College Sports Communicators, recognize the nation's top student-athletes for their combined performances on the field and in the classroom. The CSC Academic All-America® program separately recognizes soccer honorees in four divisions — NCAA Division I, NCAA Division II, NCAA Division III and NAIA.

Charlie Bal, a 5-foot-9, sophomore forward from Chandler, Arizona, is a member of the National Association of Black Journalists (NABJ), in addition to recently being named Miss Mass Communications at Alcorn State University. She was a member of the Dean's List in Fall 2021 and Spring 2022. Throughout the 2022 playing season for the Braves, she played in 12 games while collecting 10 starts, despite dealing with an injury on the campaign. She logged eight shots (two on-goal) in 673 minutes across the season.

Mikayla Duncan, a 5-foot-11, redshirt sophomore midfielder for the Braves, was invited to be a member of The National Society of Leadership and Success (NSLS), and she has been a member of the Dean's List each semester in her time in Lorman. She was a Spring 2022 Presidential Scholar as well. The Waterford, Michigan native played in 17 games this past season, while also collecting 16 starts in the midfield. In logging 1,287 minutes for the Purple and Gold, Duncan scored one goal and registered six shots overall (four on-target). She held a shots on-goal percentage of 66.7 percent for the campaign.

Last, but certainly not least, 5-foot-5, junior midfielder Emily Serrato was also named to the College Sports Communicators All-District Women's Soccer Team from the Braves. The Porter, Texas native played and started in 18 games across the season for the Purple and Gold, finishing second on the team in goals (3) and second in assists (2). Serrato took the majority of corner kicks for the Braves this past season, scoring one goal directly off a corner against Southern (La.). She posted 22 shots overall, adding 12 on-target for a 54.5 percent on-goal average for the year. In the classroom, Serrato was a member of the Dean's List each semester from Fall 2020 through Spring 2022.
