LORMAN, Miss. – Under the direction of second-year head coach Reggie Williams, Alcorn Baseball officially announced its 2023 competitive schedule Saturday afternoon. In all, the Braves will play a total of 52 games throughout the upcoming campaign.

"This is a very competitive schedule, and I am eagerly anticipating the start of the season," said Williams. "We wanted to make sure we played a number of home games and get the fans behind us. We wanted a schedule that was going to challenge us to get better each time we step onto the field … and this year's schedule is truly going to do that for us."

Alcorn's first pitch of 2023 is set to take place on Friday, Feb. 17, as the Braves host Southwestern Athletic Conference (SWAC) member Alabama A&M in a three-game nonconference series at McGowan Stadium on the Alcorn campus. That series is followed the next weekend with a series against Roosevelt University (Feb. 24-26) from Chicago, Illinois. February is capped off with a midweek game at Lamar on Tuesday, Feb. 28.

The Braves play 17 of their first 18 games at home in the friendly confines of McGowan Stadium.

A three-game series at home to Jackson State in a nonconference set takes place March 3-5, followed by a midweek nonconference affair against Mississippi Valley State (March 7). Alcorn plays a doubleheader at home against Oakwood on March 11, concluding the three-game set the following day with a single game set to begin at 1 p.m.

The Purple and Gold opens the SWAC portion of the schedule at home to Prairie View A&M (March 17-19), with league games taking place Friday through Sunday in a single-game format.

The Braves have home SWAC series dates set against the Panthers of Prairie View A&M, in addition to Arkansas-Pine Bluff (April 6-8), Grambling State (April 14-16), Texas Southern (April 28-30) and Southern University (May 12-14). The home series finale against the Jaguars of Southern on May 14 will serve as "Senior Appreciation Day" for Alcorn.

Alcorn will face Mississippi Valley State in a nonconference single-game endeavor on Tuesday, April 4, at 6:30 p.m., at The Hank Aaron Sports Academy (formerly known as Smith-Wills Stadium) in Jackson, Mississippi as part of the Hank Aaron Tribute.

"Alcorn State University Baseball is delighted to be participating in such a worthwhile event to bring attention, not only to a great Hall of Fame baseball player like Hank Aaron, but also to the needs of urban youngsters who are in dire need of resources and equipment to play baseball," commented Alcorn Baseball Head Coach Reggie Williams. Other key matchups along the way for the Braves in 2023 include a return trip to Southern (March 31 – April 2), as well as facing off against Ole Miss (April 12) in Oxford. The first road series of the year for the Purple and Gold takes place March 24-26, with the Braves traveling to Grambling State in Grambling, Louisiana. Return trips to Prairie View A&M (April 21-23) accompany other road swings at Arkansas-Pine Bluff (May 5-7) and Texas Southern (May 18-20).

This season's SWAC Tournament is set to take place in Houston, Texas, but the site has since been moved to a venue to be announced at a later date.
