Seventh Match Fight Fell Short of Braves Victory

LORMAN, Miss. – The Alcorn State women's tennis team took Arkansas State to the seventh match, but the team came up short in the end, losing to the Red Wolves on Friday.

The Braves lost the double point, allowing Arkansas State to take the lead to start the match. On court one, the Red Wolves Thea Rice and Nejla Zukic defeated Alcorn pair Mikaela Konstantinov and Kimberly Kaome, 6-4. Then, Andrea Quinoz and Tangia Riley-Codrig for the Braves outlasted Emily Surcey and Rebecca Brody, 6-4, on court three. Yasmine Humbert and Sofia Vdovychenko took the doubles point for the Red Wolves on court two, defeating Jamie Edwards and Stefany Grlj also 6-4.

Alcorn took the first singles points with Grlj taking Vdovychenko, 6-0, 6-4 to tie, 1-1.

Arkansas State regained the lead on court five as Humbert defeated Riley-Codring, 6-3, 6-1. The Red Wolves extended their lead to 3-1 as Brody took Edwards, 6-3, 6-2, on court six.

The Braves would take the following two points: Konstantinov defeating Rice, 6-2, 6-3, and Quinoz taking Zukic, 6-4, 6-0.

Arkansas State grabbed the final point of the competition as Kaome defeated Surcey in three, 6-2, 1-6, and 6-0.

The Braves fall to 3-6 on the season. Alcorn will be back in action on Friday, March 4, facing Jackson State University in a conference matchup. The first serve is set for 2 p.m. in Vicksburg, Miss.
