Box Score MONTGOMERY, Ala. – The Alcorn State women's tennis team picked up a 4-2 victory against Grambling on Friday at the SWAC Pod II hosted by Alabama State. The win ends a four-game losing streak for the Braves, improving their record to 4-9.
Alcorn took the first two games in the double contest for the match's first point. Kimberley Kaome and Aizat Zholdakeyeva for the Braves defeated Mikaila Coleman and Lungile Ntuli 6-4. On court two, Alcorn pair Jamie Edwards and Stefany Grlj took down Brittney Combest and Ana Ochoa 6-3.
Edwards was victorious again in the singles competition, grabbing the Braves' first point on court six, with a 6-2, 6-2 showing against Grambling's Ochoa. Andrea Quiroz brought Alcorn's lead to 3-0, with a 6-1, 6-4 victory against Itzel Hernandez.
The Tigers received their first point when Georgina Kaindoah took down Zholdakayeva 6-2, 6-3. They cut the Braves' advantage to 3-2 as Clair Machisa won against Alcorn's Tangia Riley-Codrington.
Taking the match to three sets and sealing the victory for the Braves, Grlj defeated Takudzwa Mawisire 6-2, 2-6, and 6-1.
Alcorn State women's tennis returns to action for the second day of the SWAC Pod II against Southern University. The first serve has not been set.
