Box Score MONTGOMERY, Ala. - Alabama A&M proved to be too much for the Alcorn State women's tennis team, which suffered a 4-3 loss on Sunday afternoon at Lagoon Park. The Braves fall to 4-10 on the season and 3-3 in the Southwestern Athletic Conference following the loss. The Bulldogs improve to 5-8 on the season and 5-1 in league play.
Alabama A&M earned the opening point, taking two of the three doubles contest. Braves pair Jaime Edwards and Stefany Grlj to the first set for the Braves, defeating Camila Ruiz Diaz and Ximena Ramirez 6-3 on court two. The Bulldogs clinched the point with Jasmine Boyd and Neha Ghare downing Kimberley Kaome and Aizat Zholdakayeva 7-5 on the first court, and Deja Brown and India Woods took down Andrea Quiroz and Tangia Riley-Codrington.
Mikaela Konstantinova tied the game at two, taking the first singles contest 6-2, 7-5 on court two. The Braves quickly took the lead as Kaome defeated Ramirez 7-5 and 6-3 on the third court. The game became tied again as Diaz took down Grlj 7-5, 6-3 on court four. The following two points also went to the Bulldogs as Boyd defeated Quiroz 6-3, 7-6, 7-2, and Ghare won in three versus Zholdakayeva 4-6, 7-5, and 6-3. Edwards took the final point for Alcorn with a 6-4, 4-6, 6-0 victory against India Woods, but it was not enough for the Braves' victory.
The Braves women's tennis team gets a week's break before traveling to Hattiesburg, Miss., to play Southern Miss. The first serve is at 2 p.m.
