LORMAN, Miss. – Braves baseball finally brings the game home to open conference play against Texas Southern in a three-game series. Alcorn will host the Tigers on Saturday, March 19, in doubleheader action beginning at 1 p.m. and close the weekend with a single contest on Sunday, March 20.
The Braves (0-11) enter the weekend's matchup after three long weeks on the road to begin the season. Alcorn State is hoping for its first win in its home opener against Texas Southern.
George Osborne III leads the Braves at the plate, playing in 10 games with eight starts. The Detroit, Mich., native maintains a .318 batting average and a .364 slugging percentage with 22 at-bats, seven hits, one double, and two RBIs. Jamaal Green and Diego Lopez-Molina lead the team in ribbies with three each, and Tristin Garcia has a team-high four runs.
Texas Southern (8-7) enters conference play after a doubleheader sweep of Huston Tillotson, taking both contests 15-2. Gabe Vasquez has played and started in 15 games for a .392 batting average and a .882 slugging percentage. Vasquez has amassed 51 at-bats, 13 runs, and 20 hits (six doubles, three triples, and three home runs) for 23 RBIs.
The Braves leads the series 35-30-1, last facing the Tigers in 2018. During that matchup, Alcorn State fell 10-3 in the first round of the Southwestern Athletic Conference Championship Tournament.
