LORMAN, Miss. - After splitting a Texas road swing, the Alcorn State University women's basketball team looks to end the season on a high note hosting Mississippi Valley State University Thursday. The in-conference matchup is the second to the last game of the regular season and will tip at 5:30 p.m. inside the Davey L. Whitney Complex.
Alcorn (3-20, 2-14 Southwestern Athletic Conference) enters Thursday's competition after two competitive road games at Prairie View A&M and Texas Southern. Against the Panthers last Saturday, the Braves found success at the line for a 61-52 victory but could not repeat the feat at Texas Southern on Monday, falling 62-55.
In both efforts, Tyginae Wright led Alcorn State in scoring. Against PVAM, the senior guard put up 10 points, four rebounds, and one steal to be the only Brave to hit in double-digits. At Texas Southern, Wright tied Maya Claytor to for 12 points and added eight rebounds and one steal in the effort.
Mississippi Valley (3-21, 2-14 SWAC) comes to Lorman with a five-game losing streak. In their last outing, the Devilettes fell 78-64 at Arkansas Pine Bluff. Zakia Mahoney led MVSU with 17 points and six rebounds, and Mikayla Etienne had 10.
Thursday will be the 90th all-time meeting between Mississippi Valley and Alcorn State in women's basketball, with the Braves holding a 56-33 lead in the all-time series. ASU has won three of the last five meetings but dropped the most recent competition earlier this season. On the road, the Braves fell 93-76 inside the Harrison HPER Complex.
In the action, four braves hit double figures. Zy'Nyia White had 23, Kailyn Watkins scored 17 off the bench, Wright added 13, and LaRae Rascoe had 12.
