STARKVILLE, Miss. – Braves women's tennis suffered another setback Sunday afternoon in Starkville, Miss. after dropping a 4-1 decision to No. 64 Mississippi State in its first out of conference contest in almost a month. Following the loss, Alcorn State falls to 4-12 on the season while the Bulldogs improve to 10-8.
Mississippi State began the match by earning the doubles point. Chloe Cirotte and Tamara Racine first defeated Kimberley Kaome and Mikaela Konstantinov, 6-1, on court one before Emma Antonaki and Marta Falceto topped Jaime Edwards and Stefany Grlj, 6-3, in the second spot. The final doubles game was played to completion as Alexandra Mikhailuk and Alessia Tagliente took down Tangia Riley-Codrington and Aizat Zholdakayeva on court three.
Aholdakeyeva took the only point for the Braves in the singles contest, going unopposed on court six to tie the match. The Braves lost the second singles point on court four as Tagliente defeated Grlj, 6-2, 6-1. Cirotte bested Andrea Quiroz on the second court, 6-1, 6-0, to put Mississippi State up 3-1.
The Bulldogs claimed their fourth and final point on five as Falceto defeated Edwards, 6-1, 6-4.
The Braves will look to rebound on Monday, March 28, as they travel to Hattiesburg, Miss. to take on Southern Miss. The first serve is set for 2 p.m.
