Men's Tennis Falls 4-0 to Southern Miss

HATTIESBURG, Miss. – Slow starts proved too much for Alcorn State men's tennis teams, as it lost 4-0 to Southern Miss in midweek action Friday afternoon. The Braves fall to 3-10 on the season as the Golden Eagles improve to 9-7.

Alcorn found itself in a hole early in doubles and could not dig out of it. Luka Rodic and Luka Andonov had a strong showing against Shamirul Shahril and Antoine Audrain, taking them to extra points but ultimately dropping the set 7-5. On court one, David Pata and Lucas Dini won their matchup against Alexander Gima and Alan Sanson, 6-1. The doubles point was decided on court three as Dhruv Sunish, and Pasawee Reansuwong took down Isaac Santitto and Santiago Rocca 6-2 to give the point to the Golden Eagles.

Southern Miss made a clean sweep of the singles competition. Olimjon Naviev won against Rodic 6-4, 5-0 on the third court. Christopher Cahour defeated Santitto 6-1, 6-0 on the fifth court, and Pawin Jirapoomdaje bested Rocca 6-0, 6-1 on the sixth.

Three singles contests went unfinished. Pata successfully took one set from Sunish in a 2-6, 6-3 battle that would have led to an extra set, but the match was called before completion.

On Tuesday, April 5, the Braves return to action as they host Southern Miss in a rematch. The first serve is at 2 p.m.
