HATTIESBURG, Miss. – The Braves women's tennis suffers a midweek loss on Tuesday afternoon in Hattiesburg after dropping a 4-0 decision to Southern Miss. Alcorn State falls to 3-14 overall following the loss while the Golden Eagles improve to 11-2.
Southern Miss began the match by earning the doubles point with three-straight set victories. Sarah Medik and Monique Burton defeated Kimberley Kaome and Aizat Zholdakayeva on court one 6-2, as Suhana Das and Clara Tardivel took down Stefany Grlj and Jamie Edwards on court two also 6-2. The Golden Eagles made it a clean sweep when Alyssa Richter and Maddison Ricardo topped Veronica Rodriguez and Andrea Quiroz on court three 6-0.
The home team then jumped out to a two-point lead when Tardivel bested Grlj in a 6-0, 6-0 outcome on the fourth court to begin singles play. Richter then won her singles match against Edwards 6-1, 6-0, on court five.
The Golden eagles then made it a 4-0 sweep over the Braves when Ricardo posted a 6-1, 6-3 win over Rodriguez on court six.
The Braves will look to rebound in a rematch against the Golden Eagles on Tuesday, April 5, at home. The match with Southern Miss will commence at 2 p.m. CT at the Alcorn Tennis Complex.
