LORMAN, Miss. – The Alcorn State men's tennis team grabbed the doubles point and a point in singles play, but the Jackson State Tigers ultimately pulled away for a 4-2 victory on Saturday afternoon. The Braves' weekend loss brings their record to 1-7 overall.
Alcorn snatched the doubles point, taking two of the three doubles competition. David Pata and Lucas Dini faced down Francisco Vargas and Raul Centeno on court one to take their game 6-3. Santiago Rocca and Isaac Santitto narrowly lost their match to JSU's Rich Gamo and Hiromu Ikeda, 6-4. The point decision came down to Luka Andonov and Luka Rodic on court two against J. Soria and Agustin Agosto. In the end, Andonov and Rodic pulled it off for the Braves with a 6-4 decision.
Rodic would be the only Brave to take a game in the singles competition. He defeated Agustin Agosto on court 4. Despite the effort, it was not enough to pull the win for Alcorn State, and the Braves fell, 4-2.
The Alcorn State men's tennis team returns to action on Monday, March 7, when they travel to Thibodaux, La., to take on Nicholls state. The first serve is set for 2 p.m.
