NATCHITOCHES, La. – The Alcorn State women's tennis team lost to Northwestern State University on Sunday afternoon, 7-0, in Natchitoches, La. The Braves move to a 3-9 record this season, including a 0-4 mark on the road.
Alcorn State lost the doubles point to start the dual match in a 3-0 sweep. Mikaela Konstantinova and Kimberly Kaome forced extra points on court one, pushing NSU's Mariella Minettie and Tjasa Klevisar to a 7-5 decision. However, Northwestern State quickly took the doubles point with 6-0 and 6-1 victories on the other courts.
Konstantinova and Klevisar faced off again in singles competition. Konstantinova was able to take the second set for Alcorn 6-4 to force a third game, but it went unfinished as other contests decided the match.
Jaime Edwards for the Braves also had a competitive singles match. She forced the first game of her contest to extra points, taking Patrycja Polanska to a 7-5 decision.
The Braves will be back in action on Friday, March 11, for the SWAC Pod II hosted by Alabama State University. During the weekend tournament, Alcorn State will face Grambling, Southern, and Alabama.
