Untimely Errors Cost the Braves Against Grambling

LORMAN, Miss. – Silent bats and untimely errors cost the Braves baseball team in the opening game of the Grambling series Friday night. Alcorn State fell 11-1 inside William 'Rat' McGowan Stadium to begin the weekend's contest.

The Braves (1-17, 1-6 Southwestern Athletic Conference) connected for just two hits with one run while committing four errors against the Tigers. Diego Lopez-Molina and Khalil Smith were the only players for Alcorn to collect hits, while Clayvonje Wright recorded the lone RBI. Coming in on a wild pitch, Lopez Molina scored one run.

Jermel Ford (0-5) took the loss on the mound. The Hattiesburg, Miss. native pitched 4.0 innings for four hits against, seven runs (two earned), two walks, and three strikeouts.

Grambling (9-17, 4-3 SWAC) scored 11 runs on 11 hits with two errors. Julian Murphy, the designated hitter, was perfect at the plate with two at-bats, two hits, and two runs, while Terry Burrell III went 2-for-3 with two runs and two RBIs.

Shemar Page (3-3) pitched the complete game for the win, throwing for 7.0 innings with 12 strikeouts. He got through the contest without giving up any bases on balls with just two hits against him and one unearned run.

The Braves return to McGowan Stadium tomorrow, Saturday, April 2, for game two of the series against Grambling State. The first pitch is set for 3 p.m.
