Box Score LORMAN, Miss – Unsteady pitching put the Braves Baseball team in a hole it could not get out of in the second contest of a three-game series against Grambling State University. The Alcorn bullpen cycled in six pitchers with a total of 15 walks and six hit batters. Unable to steady their defense, the Braves fell 32-10 against the Tigers Saturday afternoon in the William 'Rat' McGowan Stadium.
Alcorn (1-18, 1-7 Southwestern Athletic Conference) found itself down 17-0 in 3.5 innings but rallied in the second half of the game to score runs in every remaining frame. The Braves connected for 12 hits but had seven errors in the contest.
Khalil Smith led Alcorn with a 2-for-3 appearance at the plate, including one triple, one home run, and four RBIs. The Detroit, Mich. native also had two runs in the outing.
Jamal Green, Jordan Holt, and Garrett Palladion had two hits each, and Tyler Daniels and Holt added two runs.
Austin Guzman (1-3) took the loss on the mound. The new Braunfels, Texas native, pitched 3.1 innings for six hits against, nine earned runs, four walks, and two strikeouts.
Grambling (9-17, 5-3 SWAC) had 17 hits and four errors in the 32-10 victory. Jarficur Parker led the Tigers with five hits on eight at-bats. He also had six runs and three ribbies. Kam Holland had a game-high five RBIs, clearing the bases in the seventh inning for a grand slam, and Nasir Fredrick had a 2-for-3 showing with five runs and two RBIs. He was walked four times.
The Braves and the Tigers will return to McGowan Stadium for the series's final installment on Sunday, April 3. The first pitch is set for 1 p.m.
