LORMAN, Miss. – The Alcorn State men's and women's tennis teams are Southwestern Athletic Conference Championship Tournament bound. The three-day event at the Pepsi Center in New Orleans, La., will begin Friday, April 22, with the quarterfinal round and conclude on Sunday, April 24, with the conference championship. The Braves enter the tournament as the No. 3 seed, and the Lady Braves begin as the No. 5 seed.
The Alcorn men's team will face off against the No. 5 Prairie View A&M on Friday at 1 p.m. The Braves are 5-12 on the season and 3-2 in league play. Lucas Dini leads the team in singles with a 4-7 record overall and a 3-0 showing in the SWAC. Alcorn pair Luka Andonov and Luka Rodic lead the Braves in doubles as they are 5-6 overall and 3-0 against conference opponents.
The Prairie View men's team is 2-2 overall and 1-4 in the SWAC. In conference play, Jaydn Boone, Joseph Gonzales, and Juan Viada lead the team with one win in singles competition. Panther duo Jorge Cabellero and Diego Hatem lead in doubles with a 2-0 record.
The Lady Braves will take on the No. 3 Prairie View A&M on Friday at 9 a.m. Alcorn is 6-16 on the season and 5-4 in the league. Andrea Quiroz heads the Lady Braves in singles play with a 7-6 showing overall and 2-2 in conference play. Kimberley Kaome leads the team against conference opponents with a 4-2 record. Alcorn pair Jaime Edwards and Stefany Grlj hold a 5-1 record in doubles.
PVAM is 7-18 overall and 7-2 in the SWAC. Victoria Castillo leads the team in singles with a 10-8 overall record and a 7-0 in conference play. She connects with Mahogani Green to carry the teams on the doubles court with a 12-7 record and a 6-0 record against SWAC opponents.
