LORMAN, Miss. – The Alcorn State Baseball team will close out the 2022 season this weekend as it travels to Southern University for a three-game Southwestern Athletic Conference series beginning Thursday night and running through Saturday afternoon.
Thursday's contest is set to begin at 6 p.m. with a 6 p.m. game on Friday and a 1 p.m. game on Saturday. The series will be played at the Lee-Hines Baseball Field, located on the campus of Southern University.
Southern University is 21-29 on the season and tied for No. 1 in the Southwestern Athletic Conference West Division with Prairie View with an 18-9 record in league contests. The Jaguars are coming off a narrow 5-4 loss at New Orleans on Tuesday and a three-game sweep of PVAM last weekend.
The Braves are No. 6 in the West, dropping their last four contest against Arkansas – Pine Bluff for their final home series of the 2022 season. Alcorn senior pitcher Andrew Meadows had a career contest on Senior Day, delivering a career-high eight strikeouts against the Golden Lions. He is very likely to retake the mound at Southern.
Jamil Betancourt and Diego Lopez-Molina lead the Braves at the plate. Betancourt has recorded 100 at-bats for 10 runs, 29 hits (one double), and 11 runners batted in. Lopez-Molina has tallied 100 at-bats, 17 runs, and 37 hits (seven doubles, two triples, and two home runs) for 22 RBIs.
