LORMAN, Miss. – The Alcorn State University Athletics Department is proud to announce the induction of another staff member into a historically black college and university (HBCU) athletics hall of fame. Head baseball coach
Reggie Williams will be named to the Southern University Sports Hall of Fame for his contributions to Jaguar athletics as a student-athlete. The event will be held at the L' Auberge Casino and Hotel in Baton Rouge, La. on Saturday, Nov. 18 at 7 p.m.
    "To be selected as an inductee into the Southern University Sports Hall of Fame is a blessing and an honor," expressed Williams. "I am humbled by this occurrence and I'm truly grateful for this opportunity to be rewarded with such a prestigious distinction. As a member of the Southern University Baseball Hall of Fame and now this, words cannot nearly express my sense of gratitude and appreciation."
    Williams was a 3-year letterman at Southern on a full baseball scholarship. He was a member of two Southwestern Athletic Conference Championship teams. Williams was also drafted twice while attending the university. In 1981, he was drafted to the St. Louis Cardinals in the sixth round and again in 1982 by the Los Angeles Dodgers in the 13th round.  Coach Williams excelled off the diamond as well receiving the Presidential Scholar Award for having the highest GPA in the Athletics Department. He graduated cum laude with Bachelor of Science in Business.
    The Southern University Sports Hall of Fame is a non-profit organization committed to preserving the university's athletic history. It is also an "educational repository honoring outstanding athletes and teams for their athletic performance, leadership, and team contributions while at Southern University and A&M College.
