NEW ORLEANS, La. – Alcorn State University women's basketball team traveled to the University of New Orleans for a mid-week match up. The Lady Braves fought hard but were defeated by the Privateers, 42-53.
ASU was led by
Nakia Cheatham with 11 points, a team high nine rebounds, one assist and one steal. She was followed by
Akyriale Ford who racked up 10 points, three blocks, two rebounds, and one steal.
Kiarra Henderson and
Destiny Brown contributed six points and six rebounds each. Brown was also able to snag four blocks.
Tyginae Wright kept the offense moving with six assists.
As a team, the Lady Braves were 16-of-58 from the field, 8-of-13 from the line and tallied 42 rebounds.
Alexis Calderon was the leader for UNO as she scored 14 points and tallied six rebounds, four assists, and four steals. She was followed by Justice Ross with 11 points, four rebounds, three assists, and two blocks. The Privateers' Patricia Sherrill contributed six rebounds.
Collectively, UNO finished the game going 20-of-61 from the field, 8-of-14 from the line, and recording 42 rebounds.
Alcorn State will travel to Waco, Texas on Sunday, Nov. 26 to face Baylor University. Tip off is set for 2 p.m.
