ARLINGTON, TEXAS – Alcorn State University men's basketball traveled to face the University of Texas-Arlington for a Wednesday night match up. The Braves went toe-to-toe with the Maverick but were defeated down the stretch, 69-82.
Alcorn was able to keep pace with UTA for much of the first half and went into halftime down by only three points. However, the Braves lost the battles in the paint and scoring from the bench. Alcorn bench scored 14 points compared to UTA's 36. In the paint, ASU finished with 26 points while the Mavericks ended with 32.
The Braves had three players finish with double-digit point totals.
Byron Joshua led the way with 21 points, four rebounds, and five assists. He was followed by
Jeremiah Gambrell with 13 points, two assists, and one rebound.
Jeremiah Kendall rounded out the three with 10 points and a team-high five rebounds.
As a team, Alcorn ended the game going 39.7 percent from the field, and 76 percent from the stripe.
UTA was led by Kade Douglas with 20 points, five rebounds, and three assists. He was followed by Shemar Wilson with a double-double of 14 points and a team-high 12 rebounds. Wilson also recorded three blocks. Brandyn Talbot and Dwayne Koroma accounted for 12 points each. DaJuan Gordon contributed eight rebounds and Akili Vining tallied eight assists.
Collectively, the Maverick finished the game going 47.5 percent from the field and 73.3 percent from the stripe.
Alcorn State men's basketball stays on the road and heads to Clemson University on Friday, Nov. 24. Tip off is set for 7 p.m. (CT).
