FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. – The Alcorn State University (0-1) opened their season on the road against the University of Arkansas (1-0) on Monday night. Alcorn fought valiantly but fell to the Razorbacks, 59-93.
    Newcomer
Jeremiah Gambrell led the way for the Braves going 6-of-8 from the field with two made from the arc for 17 points on the night. He was followed by
Byron Joshua with 12 points. Joshua and
Jalen Hawkins each accounted for two assists.
Michael Pajeaud worked the paint for seven rebounds in the game.
Trevon Stoutermire came up with two blocks for Alcorn.
    Khalif Battle finished the night for Arkansas with 21 points. He was followed by Tramon Mark with 16 and Trevon Brazile with 13. The rebound leader for the Razorbacks was Jalen Graham with 8 while Denijay Harris finished with seven. Davonte Davis was the assist leader for Arkansas with five.
    As a team, Alcorn State was 20-of-52 from the field and 16-of-26 from the stripe. Arkansas went 28-of-54 from the field, 12-of-30 from three point range and 25-of-37 from the stripe.
    The Braves return home on Wednesday, Nov. 8 as they host Xavier University of Louisiana at the Davey L. Whitney Complex. Tip off is set for 7 p.m.
