LORMAN, Miss. – Alcorn State University men's basketball pulled out a nail biter over Xavier University of Louisiana on Wednesday, 70-62. With the win, the Braves moved to 1-1 on the season. The contest saw three lead changes and two ties. The largest lead the Braves held was nine points in the second half with 1:57 left.

    Alcorn was led by
Byron Joshua with 22 points, six rebounds, three assists, and three steals on the night. He was followed by All-Southwestern Athletic Conference Preseason First Team pick
Jeremiah Kendall with 21 points, nine rebounds, one steal, and a block.
Stephen Byard hit the boards hard for the Braves as he came up with nine rebounds as well.
    As a team, Alcorn State went 24-of-60 from the field and shot 63.3 percent from the stripe.

    Xavier (La.) finished the night with four players in the double digits. The offense was led by Lance Williams with 16 points, and he was followed by Jathen Ross with 15, Jeremy Lindsey with 12, and Corey Wells with 10. Wells was also the leading rebounder for the Gold Rush with eight. Lindsey snagged two steals in the contest.

    XULA finished the night 21-of-53 from the field and shot 60 percent from the stripe.
    The Braves will be back in action on Tuesday, Nov. 14 as they travel to Arkansas State University. Tip off is set for 7 p.m.
