WASHINGTON, D.C. – Head coach
Landon Bussie and the Alcorn State men's basketball team traveled to George Washington University on Thursday afternoon. The Braves came close to closing the deal but fell short, 75-79.
    Alcorn played a great game and bested the George Washington University with their bench and in the paint. The Braves were able to outscore GWU's bench, 36-14 and in the paint, 44-16. ASU also put up more second chance points, 19-10. They also forced the Revolutionaries to commit four more turnovers, 14-18.
    Alcorn State had three players in the double digits for point totals.
Jalen Hawkins exploded with 24 points, three rebounds, and two assists for the day.
Stephen Byard posted 14 points and a team-high nine rebounds with two assists, and one steal.
Michael Pajeaud rounded out the top three scorers with 13 points and two rebounds.
Djahi Binet contributed eight points and eight rebounds.
Roderick Jones tallied seven assists.
    Collectively, the Braves went 44.4 from the field and 87.5 percent from the line.
    GWU had four players in the double digits. Garrett Johnson was the leader with 23 points and two rebounds. James Bishop, IV finished with 20 points, five assists and five assists while Maximus Edwards ended the game with 14 points, five rebounds, and four assists. Darren Buchanan, Jr. recorded 10 rebounds, four assists, and two steals.
    As a team, George Washington University went 48 percent from the field and 69.6 percent from the line.
    Alcorn will open Southwestern Athletic Conference play on Saturday, Jan. 6 against Jackson State University. Tip off is set for 2:30 p.m. at the Lee E. Williams Athletics and Assembly Center.
