CHICAGO, Ill. – Alcorn State University women's basketball traveled to face DePaul University on Thursday night. The Lady Braves fought hard but were defeated by Blue Demons, 39-77.
Alcorn was led by
Nakia Cheatham with a double-double of 14 points and 10 rebounds. She also snapped up a team high three steals. Cheatham was followed by
Destiny Brown with 10 points and nine boards. Brown also tallied three blocks.
Tyginae Wright kept the balling moving for Alcorn with four assists.
As a team, ASU finished the night 25.9 percent from the field and 47.1 percent from the line. The Lady Braves outscored DePaul in the paint, 26-16, and in second chance points, 15-5.
Shakara McCline was the leader for the Blue Demons with 13 points, five rebounds, three assists, and three steals. She was followed by Michelle Sidor and Kate Clark with 12 points each. Sidor contributed five assists while Clark posted a team-high six rebounds. Brynn Masikewich tallied a team-high three blocks.
Collectively, DePaul went 33.3 percent from the field and 75 percent from the free throw line.
Alcorn will be back in action on Saturday, Dec. 30 against the University of Mississippi in Oxford, Miss. Tip off is set for 3 p.m. Fans can catch the action on ESPN+.
