LORMAN, Miss. – The Alcorn State baseball team claimed its second victory of the season, defeating Southeastern Baptist College 3-2 Saturday afternoon. Freshman outfielder Jaylon Lucky led the Braves at the plate, connecting for two hits on three plate appearances for one RBI.
Alcorn got off to an early start, scoring its first run in the bottom of the second inning. Diego Lopez-Molina scored an unearned run on a single by Nathan Gamez after making it to base on a walk.
The Braves extended their lead to 2-0 in the fourth inning, with Gamez collecting his second RBI of the contest. Khalil Smith led off, singling on a bunt before stealing second base. He then moved to third on a fly-out and came home when Gamez grounded out to second.
Alcorn's final run came in the fifth frame. Lucky swung for a triple to center field to score Garrett Palladino. Palladino reached base on a fielder's choice and took second on a wild pitch.
Southeastern Baptist finally saw action in the sixth inning. The Chargers scored on an error to cut the Braves lead to 3-1.
SBC added its last run in the eighth inning on a single, but it was not enough to prevent the Braves 3-2 victory.
Alcorn will be back in action on Friday, March 31, as the Braves travel to Baton Rouge, La. The team will face Southern University in the first of a three-game series. The first pitch is set for 6 p.m.
