Baseball Fumbles Midweek Contest Versus Grambling

LORMAN, Miss. – Tyler Daniels and Khalil Smith connected for two hits each as the Braves recorded 11 total, but it was not enough for the Alcorn State baseball victory. In a series makeup game, the Braves fell 16-7 to Grambling State University on Tuesday afternoon inside William 'Rat' McGowan Stadium.

Daniels saw a 2-for-3 appearance, including one double, to rack up two runs and one RBI. Smith also had two hits on four at-bats to tally one run and one RBI. Garret Palladino led the team in RBIs with two, and Jamil Betancourt scored two runs.

Alcorn cycled through six pitchers against the Tigers. Entering the game in the third inning, Joshua Mason was credited with the loss. The Bay Minette, Ala. native threw for 0.1 innings for two earned runs and one walk.

The Braves came out the gate strong, scoring two runs in the bottom of the opening frame. Kalum Banks, Jr. singled to left field to score Daniels, and Diego Lopez-Molina hit to bring in Jermel Ford.

Grambling added one in the second on a sacrifice fly and put up three in the third. A triple brought in two runners, and a wild pitch scored a third. The Tigers led the Braves 4-2.

Alcorn answered in the bottom of the inning to bring the score to 4-3. Smith singled to bring in Jaylon Lucky.

Grambling had an eventful fourth and fifth frame to add eight more runs for a 12-3 score. The Braves would cut into that lead in the sixth, scoring three on a double by Daniels and a single by Palladino.

A Tiger home run in the seventh put the score at 13-6, and two runs in the eighth gave Grambling a 14-6 advantage.

Alcorn scored its final run in the bottom of the frame on a single by Ford, and Grambling scored its last run in the ninth for a final score of 16-7.

Alcorn returns to action this weekend with a three-game home series against conference-foe Texas Southern. The first game of the trio is Friday, April 28, at 6 p.m.
