HUNTSVILLE, Ala. – The Alcorn State University women's basketball team (2-11, 0-2 SWAC) faced Alabama A&M University in their second Southwestern Athletic Conference contest of the season on Thursday evening. The Lady Braves fought hard but were defeated by the Bulldogs, 58-67.
    Alcorn outscored AAMU in the paint, 28-26, and in second chance points, 7-5. The Lady Braves also outscored the Bulldog bench, 25-17.
    Zy'Nyia White led the way for ASU with 21 points and four rebounds.
Destiny Brown scored 20 points and snagged a team-high nine rebounds.
Kiarra Henderson had a nose for the ball as she racked up four steals on the night.
    The Lady Braves went 42.6 percent from the field and 62.5 percent from the free throw line.
    Alabama A&M (7-8, 2-1 SWAC) was led by Kaylah Turner with 20 points and team-high seven rebounds. Amiah Simmons scored 16 points and dished out three assists. Darian Burgin contributed four steals.
    The Bulldogs were 47.2 percent from the field and 66.7 percent from the line.
    Alcorn State travels to Alabama State University on Saturday, Jan. 13. Tip off is set for 2 p.m. in Montgomery, Ala.
