MONTGOMERY, Ala. – Alcorn State University women's basketball (3-13, 1-2 SWAC) snapped up their first Southwestern Athletic Conference win on Saturday afternoon over Alabama State University. The Lady Braves defeated the Hornets, 49-42.
ASU outscore Alabama State in the paint, 28-18, and on the fast break, 11-6.
Alcorn's
Destiny Brown racked up a double-double of a game-high 21 points and 16 rebounds. Brown also patrolled the paint to the tune of seven blocks and four steals. She was followed by
Zy'Nyia White with 11 points, four rebounds, and one block.
Nakia Cheatham pulled down eight rebounds.
As a team, the Lady Braves were 31.5 percent from the field and 68.2 percent from the free throw line.
Cordasia Harris put up a double-double of her own for Alabama State (1-14, 1-3 SWAC) with 14 points and 16 rebounds. The Hornets went 24.2 percent from the field and 63.6 percent from the stripe.
Alcorn returns to Lorman, Miss. to host Texas Southern University o-n Saturday, Jan. 20 at 1 p.m. and Prairie View A&M University on Monday, Jan. 22 at 5 p.m.
