Braves Fall Just Short Against Alabama State, 53-55

MONTGOMERY, Ala. – The Alcorn State University men's basketball team (2-14, 1-2 SWAC) faced Alabama State University on the road Saturday afternoon in Montgomery, Ala. The Braves fought hard but fell short of a win by two points, 53-55.

ASU had three scorers with double digit points at the end of the game. Jeremiah Kendall led the way with 19 points and five rebounds. Jeremiah Gambrell finished the day with 14 points and two rebounds. Byron Joshua rounded out the three with 10 points and seven rebounds. Dekedran Thorn collected eight rebounds.

Alcorn went 38 percent from the field and 56 percent from the stripe. The Braves also racked up 44 rebounds compared to the Alabama State's 38.

The Hornets (8-9, 3-1 SWAC) were led by Antonio Madlock with 14 points and five rebounds. He was followed by Isaiah Range with 12 points and three rebounds. Sean Smith finished the game with 10 points and a team-high seven rebounds.

Alabama State went 34 percent from the field and 58 percent from the line.

Alcorn will be back at the Davey L. Whitney Complex on Saturday, Jan. 20 at 3 p.m. against Texas Southern University and Monday, Jan. 22 at 7:30 p.m. against Prairie View A&M University.
