LORMAN, Miss. – Zy'Nyia White's explosive performance carried Alcorn State University women's basketball (4-11, 2-2 SWAC) to its second Southwestern Athletic Conference win of the 2024 season over Texas Southern University on Saturday. The Lady Braves defeated the Lady Tigers, 69-51.
    White led the team in scoring with 22 points and three rebounds. She was followed by
Destiny Brown with 16 points and three rebounds.
Tyginae Wright contributed 11 points and a team-high seven assists in the victory.
Nakia Cheatham played clean up crew under the board for a game-high nine rebounds.
    As a team, Alcorn went 43.3 percent from the field and 84.2 percent from the free throw line. ASU outscored TSU in the paint, 42-18.
Texas Southern (3-13, 2-3 SWAC) was led by Nya Harmon with 11 points and a team-high six rebounds. Taniya Lawson scored 10 points and had two rebounds. Gretta Galban tallied four assists.
    Collective, the Lady Tigers went 31.4 percent from the field and 73.9 percent from the line.
    Alcorn will be back in action at the Davey L. Whitney Complex on Monday, Jan. 22 as they face Prairie View A&M University. Tip off is set for 5 p.m.
