LORMAN, Miss. – Alcorn State University women's basketball (4-12, 2-3 SWAC) suffered a close loss to Prairie View A&M University in the Davey L. Whitney Complex on Monday night. The Lady Braves dropped the game to the Lady Panthers, 55-61.
    ASU came out hot in the first quarter and controlled the tempo to the tune of 14-11 at the end of the first quarter. At half-time, the Lady Braves led by one with a score of 29-28. In the second half of the game, Prairie View turned the tables and took advantage of weak spots in the paint to do damage.

Nakia Cheatham led Alcorn in scoring with 14 points, six rebounds and one block. She was followed by Zy'Nyia White with 13 points and five rebounds.
Destiny Brown tallied 11 points and a team-high eight rebounds.
Tyginae Wright rounded out the top scorers with 10 points and four assists.
Nia McCalphia accounted for four steals.
    As a team, Alcorn went 38 percent from the field and 50 percent from the line. The Lady Braves outscored Prairie View in points off turnovers, 21-14.
    The Lady Panthers (6-9, 2-3 SWAC) were led by Ryann Payne with 16 points, and six rebounds. She was followed by Amauri Williams with 12 points and three rebounds. Adreanna Waddle scored 10 points and recorded nine rebounds, and two blocks.
    Collectively, PVAMU went 36.7 percent from the field and 68.2 percent from the line.
    Alcorn will be back in action on Saturday, Jan. 27 in Tallahassee, Fla. as they travel to Florida A&M University. Tip off is set for 2 p.m. (ET).
