DAYTONA, Fla. – With two free throws,
Byron Joshua sealed the game for Alcorn State University men's basketball and brought Head Coach
Landon Bussie within four games of 50 career wins. The Braves traveled to Bethune-Cookman University and came away with a 70-67 win over the Wildcats on Monday night.
Alcorn (5-15, 4-3 SWAC) applied pressure to BCU in every aspect of the game. At halftime, the game was knotted at 40 but the Braves tenacious play earned them 30 points in the second half. ASU outscored the Wildcats in paint points, 38-28.
Jeremiah Kendall shined for Alcorn State as he recorded 19 points and six rebounds. He was followed by
Byron Joshua with 13 points and a team-high seven assists.
Jalen Hawkins posted 10 points and tallied four assists and two steals.
The Braves went 47.1 percent from the field and 86.4 percent from the free throw line.
Bethune-Cookman (9-11, 4-3 SWAC) Â was led by Zion Harmon who posted 23 points and six assists. Jacobi Heady accounted for 15 points and two steals. Reggie Ward, Jr. scored 11 points and four rebounds. Dhashon Dyson recorded five rebounds and six assists.
As a team, BCU went 39.7 percent from the field and 86.7 percent from the stripe.
Alcorn will be back in the Davey L. Whitney Complex on Saturday, Feb. 3 as they play Southern University at 3 p.m.
