LORMAN, Miss. – Jeremiah Kendall put up a last-ditch jump shot in the last two seconds of Alcorn State University's contest with Southern University on Saturday afternoon. The shot didn't fall, and the Braves were defeated by one point, 70-71.
Alcorn outscored Southern in fast break points, 20-4. Several offensive miscues were the deciding factor in the Braves losing the contest.
Kendall led the way for ASU with 19 points and six rebounds. He was followed by
Jeremiah Gambrell with 16 points and one rebound.
Jalen Hawkins contributed 13 points and four rebounds.
Byron Joshua kept the Alcorn offense moving with six assists and
Dekedran Thorn snatched three steals.
Alcorn went 36 percent from the field and 80.6 percent from the line.
Southern University was led by Brandon Davis with 16 points and three rebounds. Tidjiane Dioumassi scored 15 points and collected seven assists. Tai'Reon Joseph tallied 15 points while Derrick Tezeno racked up 10 points and seven rebounds.
The Jaguars went 45.8 percent from the field and 60 percent from the line.
ASU will be back in action on Monday, Feb. 5 as they face Grambling State University in the Davey L. Whitney Complex. Tip off is set for 7:30 p.m.
