DAYTONA, Fla. – Destiny Brown put on a prolific performance against Bethune-Cookman University as Alcorn State University women' s basketball dropped their second Southwestern Athletic Conference (SWAC) game in a row. The Lady , Braves were defeated by the Wildcats on Monday night, 58-66.
ASU (4-14, 2-5 SWAC) couldn't bounce back from a low scoring second quarter where the Lady Braves only scored nine points compared to BCU's 19. Alcorn outscored the Wildcats in second chance points, 17-6.
Brown posted a sweet double-double of 24 points and 14 rebounds while racking up four assists, four steals, and three blocks. She was followed by Zy'Nyia White with 14 points, four assists, three rebounds, one steal, and one block.
Nakia Cheatham accounted for nine rebounds.
As a team, the Lady Braves went 36.2 percent from the field and 85.7 percent from the free throw line.
Bethune-Cookman (13-7, 4-3 SWAC) was led by Kaylin White with 15 points and five steals. Karianna Woods scored 14 points and tallied a game-high seven assists. D'Shantae Edwards and Chanelle McDonald each accounted for 10 points. McDonald also recorded a team-high eight rebounds.
The Wildcats were 37.9 percent from the field and 70.4 percent from the stripe.
Alcorn State will be back in action at home in the Davey L. Whitney Complex on Saturday, Feb. 3 against Southern University. Tip off is set for 1 p.m.
