JACKSON, Miss. – Alcorn's women's basketball team (2-10, 0-1 SWAC) faced off against Jackson State University on Saturday at midday to open the Southwestern Athletic Conference portion of the 2023-24 campaign. The Lady Braves fell to the Tigers, 46-74.
ASU outscored Jackson (6-6, 1-0 SWAC) in the paint, 18-12. Alcorn also won the turnover battle, 4-20, but couldn't convert the second chances to points.
Zy'Nyia White put on a show scoring a game-high 21 points and snatching nine boards.
Destiny Brown's efforts beneath the goal paid off with eight rebounds while
Nia McCalphia tallied four assists and three steals.
As a team, Alcorn went 27.6 percent from the field and 57.1 percent from the line.
The Tigers were led by Ti'lan Boler with 17 points and Miya Crump with 13 points, six rebounds, and three assists. Zakiya Mahoney contributed 11 points while Angel Jackson recorded a double-double of 10 points and 12 rebounds. Jackson also tallied three blocks.
Collectively, JSU went 34.5 percent from the field and 77.1 percent from the line.
The Lady Braves will be back in action against Alabama A&M University on Thursday, Jan. 11 in Huntsville, Ala. Tip off is set for 5 p.m.
