PINE BLUFF, Ark. – Nakia Cheatham's 15 point performance couldn't lift Alcorn State University women's basketball past the University of Arkansas-Pine Bluff on Saturday afternoon. The Lady Braves were defeated on the road by the Golden Lions, 57-80.
Alcorn (4-17, 2-8 SWAC) was able to outscore UAPB in the paint, 38-30.
Cheatham led the team with 15 points, eight rebounds, and three steals. She was followed by Zy'Nyia White with 11 points, two rebounds, and two assists.
Destiny Brown contributed 10 points, four rebounds, and one steal.
ASU went 40 percent from the field and 64.7 percent from the line.
Arkansas-Pine Bluff (13-10, 8-2 SWAC) was led by Zaay Green with a double-double of 18 points and 11 rebounds. Green also tallied four assists, three steals, and two blocks. Maya Peat added 12 points and eight rebounds. Coriah Beck accounted for 11 points, four rebounds, and four assists.
The Golden Lions were 41.5 percent from the field and 59.4 percent from the free throw line.
Alcorn State travels to Mississippi Valley State University on Monday, Feb. 12. Tip off is set for 5:30 p.m.
