HOUSTON, Texas – Alcorn State University baseball opened play in the Cactus Jack HBCU Classic, hosted by Major League Baseball and the Houston Astros, against Southern University. The Braves played well but fell to the Jaguars, 4-10.
The Braves scored four runs on 11 hits while committing four errors.
Kalum Banks, Jr. finished the day with three hits, scored one run, batted three on a home run.
Jaylon Lucky had one hit and one RBI.
SU finished with 10 runs on 10 hits with no errors. Quincy Smith, III finished with two hits, one run, and four runs batted in. Tyeler Hawkins ended the game with one hit, two runs, and one run batted in. Ryan Ollison and Jalon Mack had an RBI each. Mack also had two hits.
Rashard Grace snapped up the win for Southern with five innings pitched with six hits, four earned runs, two walks and faced 24 batters.
Kewan Braziel picked up the loss with five innings pitched with seven hits, five runs (four earned), three walks, six strikeouts, and faced 24 batters.
