LORMAN, Miss. – Alcorn State University men's basketball gave a balanced performance against Bethune-Cookman University on Saturday afternoon in the Davey L. Whitney Complex. The Braves held down the home court and walked away with a 69-54 victory over the Wildcats.
The Braves outscored B-CU in the paint, 28-22, and in fast breaks, 11-9.
Dekedran Thorn led the way for Alcorn with 14 points, three rebounds and one assist. The tandem of
Jeremiah Kendall and
Jeremiah Gambrell dropped 13 points each. Kendall accounted for eight rebounds while Gambrell tallied four.
Byron Joshua added 12 points, grabbed eight rebounds, and dished out seven assists.
Stephen Byard patrolled the boards for the Braves and racked up 10 rebounds.
As a team, ASU went 53.2 percent from the field, 40 percent from the arc, and 76.5 percent from the line.
Reggie Ward, Jr. was the leader for the Wildcats with a game-high 27 points, two assists, and one rebounds. Zion Harmon contributed 11 points, two rebounds, two assists, and three steals. Jakobi Heady contributed seven rebounds.
Collectively, the team went 37.5 percent from the field and 65 percent from the line.
Alcorn will be back in action on Monday, Feb. 19 against Florida A&M University. Tip off is set for 7:30 p.m. in the Davey L. Whitney Complex.
